marie-curie-3A Guided Walk around the history of Old Harlow

Several years ago now my mother-in-law, Doris Baker, was diagnosed with cancer, this was a terrible blow to the family. My wife, Rosemary, had been getting over the death of her Father and thinking that because her Mum had devoted so much of her energy and time looking after him, as in later years he had become quite frail, that she would now be able to rest up to enjoy life a little.

marie-curieIt was not to be, we had devastating news that her Mum had cancer, while she could, Mum kept going, she would go on day trips, visit her family and go to the shops. As time went on she became frail and tired. Rosemary found she had to go over to her mums more often and spend more and more time with Mum. Rosemary was beginning to feel the strain of looking after Mum, looking after her own family and going to work. It was now that we were introduced to Marie Curie and the help that they could offer, a nurse to come in during the evening and stop over night. This was a wonderful relief; Rosemary could come home, catch up on a few things and have a good night’s sleep. The nurses were wonderful, always so willing to help, always calm and sensitive to the families needs

marie-curie-2We have helped Mare Curie in the past with collection tins and events and we are so grateful to everyone who donated which enabled the nurses to come in and look after Mum. We thought that now it would be nice to organise a sponsored walk around Old Harlow. To show people the historical buildings and beautiful countryside in the area and to raise money for Marie Curie so that they can continue to have nurses available to look after the loved ones of those who fi nd themselves in the same situation that we were.
